Need to talk about the Saints
I know, I know… NFC North, and we’re talking Saints. I feel after a nice Monday night performance which was no doubt impressive, they deserve a couple sentences.
One thing that got me thinking was, how good are they? Do they have an inferior schedule? Who knows. By straight logical thinking, they beat the Eagles and Giants. Meanwhile the only cross comparison from a NFC North team is that Green Bay played the Cowboys who the Saints will play soon. New Orleans crushed all the NFC East teams where our 2nd place Packers beat the Cowboys in a game that was tight early which the Packers packed away by end of game.
One could argue, maybe the Saints have an easy schedule against their division foes, and maybe both the AFC East and NFC East are completely overrated. And maybe the NFC North is playing the toughest division in football in playing against the likes of Pittsburgh, Cincy, and the Ravens. The North leading Vikings have no common opponents yet until the Vikes play week 17 against the Giants. At that point we’ll have a drastically different Giants team then when the Saint played them, plus the game might be of little significance for either team at that point.
Chances are, we’ll first get to see how good the Saints are when they face off round two against a Wild Card winner who at this point, I would bet would be the Packers the way the playoffs seem to be shaking out.
Oh, and in other news:
How the heck can teams be looking for a cornerback, and at this point, no one had signed Mike McKenzie until the Saints grabbed him? It was only one game, but it looked last night like he’s playing at as good as a level as he ever had. Seems like he could have filled in for Al Harris had the Packers moved quickly enough.
